The Eagle Scout project is usually the last step in the long road to becoming an Eagle Scout. Jacob Dickman's project helped the community in many ways.
The Eagle Scout project is a major project which significantly helps the community and teaches the Life Scout leadership skills.
The Life Scout must plan and present the idea for a service project, arrange for materials and transportation, recruit helpers and lead them through the project, often with the promise of a free lunch. The finished project must be presented once again, showing before and after pictures and telling how the project went. Troop 71 has had many Life Scouts perform Eagle Scout projects, so there are many opportunities for a Scout to earn service hours and to help a scout reach the highest rank in Scouting.
Jacob Dickman's project was making planters for an organization that helps kids with disabilities. We all had to shovel dirt and gravel for planters, and it was a lot of fun. We weren't just shoveling dirt for Jacob, we did it for disabled children.
